1. Aperture change
The aperture of the conductive tip is an important parameter that matches the diameter of the welding wire. For a new conductive tip, the aperture is just enough to allow the welding wire to pass smoothly and maintain good contact. With use, the welding wire continues to rub against the inner wall of the conductive tip, and the aperture will gradually increase. When the aperture is more than 0.2-0.3mm larger than the diameter of the welding wire (for example, for a 1.2mm welding wire, the conductive tip aperture reaches 1.4mm or larger), it may be excessively worn. This will cause the welding wire to be poorly aligned in the conductive tip, affecting the conduction of the welding current and the feeding stability of the welding wire.
2. Inner wall condition
Use a magnifying glass or directly observe the inner wall of the conductive tip. If the inner wall is found to have obvious scratches, pits, or becomes rough and uneven, it means that the conductive tip has experienced more friction and may be excessively worn. These wear marks will increase the friction when the welding wire is fed, and may also hinder the uniform conduction of the current and affect the stability of the arc.
3. Shape of the outlet
Check the outlet of the conductive nozzle. Under normal circumstances, it should be round and have smooth edges. If the outlet is deformed, such as becoming an oval or having notches or burrs on the edges, this will affect the feeding direction of the welding wire and the stability of the arc, which is a manifestation of excessive wear of the conductive nozzle.
2. Welding performance
1. Arc stability
During the welding process, if the arc becomes unstable, such as arc flickering, jumping, or frequent extinguishing and re-ignition, this may be a sign of excessive wear of the conductive nozzle. The worn conductive nozzle is no longer in good contact with the welding wire, and the current transmission is unstable, making it difficult for the arc to maintain a stable state.
2. Wire feeding
When feeding the wire manually, if you feel that the resistance to wire feeding is significantly increased, or the wire is stuck or deflected in the conductive nozzle, this may be caused by excessive wear of the conductive nozzle. The inner diameter of the worn conductive nozzle is irregular, which will affect the smooth feeding of the welding wire.
3. Weld quality
Observe the appearance of the weld. If there are defects such as pores, slag inclusions, uneven width or undercuts in the weld, in addition to factors such as welding parameter settings, shielding gas, and operating techniques, excessive wear of the conductive tip may also be one of the reasons. A worn conductive tip will affect the consistency of the wire feeding speed and melting speed, thereby affecting the quality of the weld.
